The excitement starts while we are trying to find it. They are never easy to find. Hidden from view like the treasure they are. Usually they are in a wood, but this time its on a beach. As we walk we talk of fairies hiding, watching us on our walk. Cheeky pixies trying to make us choose the wrong path. We take it all in, the trees, the wild flowers, the bird song, the occasional buzz of a bee or the trickle of a stream. The smell! The mixture of fresh air and warm soil, damp moss and the light scent of petals. Then we hear it, only just, its been carried on the breeze but its unmistakable. Its a faint roar and we know we are almost there. We pick up the pace and the excitement bubbles inside us. Its getting louder and now we are almost running. She turns back and grins at me and I know it's not just me, she feels it too. Perhaps she inherited the love from me. Her little legs moving so fast, the excitement in her face, 'come on mummy, we are nearly there'. Its getting really loud now. A few more steps and we'll see it. We turn the corner, and there it is! Falling from the rocks, so loud, crashing into the pool below. Immediately I want to touch it, she does too. We look at each other and hold hands, stepping carefully on the slippery rocks. Some people stop, worried it's too dangerous, too slippery, but we don't. We keep getting closer and closer. The noise of it is all we can hear now. The roar of the water. We are so close we can feel the spray splashing our faces. Its still not enough. Just a little closer. We take off our shoes and roll up our jeans. Now we are in the pool, inching closer . We stretch out our hands, we feel ice cold water on our skin with such force it takes us by surprise. We laugh. We feel alive! Its magic beneath the waterfall!!
